Life is balance, right? ( the alkaline attitude )

I am reading various things on magazines, on the internet, I am listening them to the radio and on television… “A new magic way to be slim, to lose weight, to have the dreamy figure you always wanted.”  I see extremely skinny girls, with an extremely unhealthy look everywhere. I am sure that all the marketers, the sales people and the promoters have a good intention and believe in their product, but really, is it a product that we need or an attitude?

All that fuss made me wonder and ponder through this time of Image, where people prefer to be good looking over being healthy. I have always appreciated health.I have diabetes from the age of 11 and since I was a teen, I wanted to figure out the formula that would allow me to live in balance. For people with diabetes, due to lack of insulin ,the need to be balanced is vital: most foods will not be efficiently metabolized and the body will end up with too many toxins, which in real life this pretty much means that you feel sick, with no vitality, dehydrated and with your heart pumping fast in an attempt to get rid of all the nasty toxins. The body is in agony and you can tell.

My fist though was, who wants to lose anything? I mean, even from a linguistic point of view, the phrase “lose weight” gives your brain anxiety.  You never need to lose weight. You actually have to lose excess fat. My goal was never to lose weight, but to gain health and vitality.

To do so, I started to observe the human body, the way it functions. My body is extremely sensitive to all kinds of foods and corresponds immediately to them due to lack of insulin. Through years, I noticed how fast sugar would make my body break down because of toxins, gave me headaches - how body eliminations, breath and skin would alter due to various foods. I started noticing when I would have a craving for something sweet; was sugar what I really wanted or was there a psychological factor behind that desire that wanted to be satisfied? Researching about foods make me really worried. The truth is that we are the only animal that consumes the milk of other mammals. Also, our body and teeth were not designed to consume meat, which flavor comes from the huge amounts of adrenaline released in the animal’s body when slaughtered and it’s tenderness is due to the fact that uric  substances are also released in it’s body. That didn’t make me feel very well- plus, it filled me with questions.

(note: If you wonder "what about the precious calcium from milk and protein from meat", fruits and vegetables are abundant in those substances. The human body can perfectly metabolize only human milk which provides infants with all the necessary nutrients for growth. Later, all we need can be found in what nature provides.)

The next thing was to realize what would work and why. I wanted to find that golden point that my body would feel great, be great, look great. And I found it : The alkaline balance.

Things made immediately sense in my head. There is a subtle pH (potential of hydrogen) balance in our body, ranged from 0 to 14, were zero is extremely acidic and fourteen is extremely alkaline (or base). For us to be in perfect health and balance, this number  should slightly incline to the alkaline side of the equilibrium, meaning we should be around 7,3 aproximately. Water is the most abundant compound in the human body, comprising 70% of the body, which strives to balance pH.

All foods leave an acidic or alkaline residue (or ash) in our body when consumed.
Minerals containing elements like calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, are said to be the principal components of the ash. A food is thus classified as alkaline, acid or neutral according to the pH of the solution created with its ash in water.

In real life, to obtain this  amazing balance and reveal all our power, strength, radiance, stamina , the 70% of the foods we consume daily must be alkaline and 30% acidic. That means, that we should base our diet upon low-sugar fruits, vegetables, tubers, nuts and legumes and use sugar, dairy, meat, fungi and saturated fats in a much smaller scale.

In a nutshell, the more natural foods we consume, the less cooked foods we consume, the better. No wonder why people are obese, cranky ( blood sugar triggers insulin and a series of hormones that make feelings unstable – from hyper to moody ) and with all kinds of health problems : our systems are breaking down, our body struggles to survive in this lack of vitamins, minerals and water.

We do not need a magic pill, the fantastic taste of the powder that has all you need in it or the tablets with the amazing results. We need to realize and be aware. Realize that we are destroying our body and  we are it treating as if it were the trash bin. Have you noticed that people now drink cokes bigger than their heads? That children prefer junk food over fruit? Have you realized that what our body needs is nutrients that are available in the richness of nature and not in the famous burger chain or the delicious grande-latte-caramel-chocolate-cream-500 useless calories-poo poo coffee? It is time to be aware. It is not nuclear science. We have to be aware of the fact that we are what we eat. It is not sane to eat useless foods and then take a vitamin tablet (which is expensive urine because the body cannot absorb it…). It is time we realized that 70% of the people that end up at the Doctor’s office it is due to bad eating habbits. It high time we start thinking before eating. We have linked food with pleasure, and that could be the case at times, but under no circumstances can food be the solution. So think: why am I eating this? Because it will make me feel good? Because it is a guaranteed pleasure? Or because my body needs it? Don’t you think that it would be wiser if we used food for nutrition and not for psychological treatment (that has no results whatsoever)? Wouldn’t we be so much healthier if we ate what we really needed and what we are designed to eat?

I will agree that a good figure can make you feel more confident. But without health there cannot possibly be beauty. I think it is high time we saved ourselves from this insanity around us and really realize that we are what we eat.

Bon apetit.

Note :
If you are curious about your body’s acidity or alkalinity you can buy pH test strips for cheap at your local drug store.

Mild acidosis can cause such problems as:
Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the          reduction of oxygen.
                 Weight gain, obesity and diabetes.
Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones.
                 Immune deficiency.
Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations.
                 Hormone concerns.
                 Premature aging.
Osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs.
Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.
                 Low energy and chronic fatigue.
                 Slow digestion and elimination.
                 Yeast/fungal overgrowth.
